Ash wood

a sustainable residual material that is not only kind to the planet but also lasts for years. Tables, cabinets or accessories in this wood combine functionality with an artisanal look.

Production process

Ash wood comes from the ash, a deciduous tree that grows mainly in Europe, North America and parts of Asia. The wood is known for its strength, light colour and distinctive grain, making it popular for furniture, flooring and veneer.

The process starts with the selective felling of mature ash trees, usually from sustainably managed forests. After felling, sawyers let the logs rest and dry. First, of course, in the open air, then often in drying rooms. This controlled drying prevents warping and tension in the wood.

When the wood reaches the right moisture content, it is sawn into planks or veneers and then planed. Here, professionals pay attention to the direction of the grain and the homogeneity of the colour. Depending on the final product, the wood may be further processed: sanded, brushed, stained or varnished.

Craftsmen eventually process the ash wood into furniture, decorative objects, ... . Thanks to its combination of resilience and flexibility, ash wood is particularly suitable for parts that need to be both sturdy and elegant; think curved backrests, table tops or legs.

Care instructions

Ash wood is a sturdy and lightweight material with a refined grain and timeless look. With the right care, it will stay in top condition for years.

Dust your furniture regularly with a dry, soft cloth. For light stains, a slightly damp cloth with some mild soap is sufficient. Avoid excessive water or aggressive cleaning agents, which can damage the wood. Always dry thoroughly to avoid moisture stains or distortion.

Depending on the finish, you can occasionally treat the wood with a furniture oil or beeswax. This nourishes the surface and helps prevent drying out or dulling. Also make sure not to expose ash wood to direct sunlight or heat sources for long periods to avoid discolouration or cracking.

Use felts or coasters to prevent scratches and scuffs, especially on tables or side furniture. This will keep your ash wood item beautiful, functional and naturally balanced with your interior.

Properties

  • Resilient: unlike many other hard woods, ash is remarkably pliable. This combination makes it ideal for curved elements or refined details, such as rounded handrails, flowing table edges or organic shapes.

  • Powerful & robust: ash is one of the hardwood species and is known for its impressive strength. It is perfect for furniture that is used intensively on a daily basis without losing its strength. Think tables, chairs and cupboards that will last for years.

  • Shapely: when dried and processed properly, ash wood retains its shape without cracking or warping quickly. This makes it suitable not only for dry indoor spaces, but also for larger furniture constructions where stability is essential.
