Mango wood

a sustainable residual material that is not only kind to the planet, but also lasts for years. Tables, cabinets or accessories in this wood combine functionality with an artisan feel.

Production process

Mango wood is a sustainable by-product of mango cultivation. Once a mango tree no longer produces fruit, farmers cut it down to make room for new plantings. Instead of burning the wood or letting it decay, craftsmen give it a second life in the form of furniture and other utensils.

After felling, the logs dry carefully to prevent cracking or warping. Then woodworkers saw and plane it into planks, paying attention to the wood's natural grain, colour and texture. Mango wood is known for its warm tones and vibrant grain, which make each piece unique.

Depending on the final product, artisans sand the wood smooth and treat it with oil, varnish or wax to protect it and enhance its natural look. They then process it into furniture, decoration, ... often by hand and using traditional woodworking techniques. This creates a robust, stylish product with character that is made with respect for people and nature.

Care instructions

Mango wood is a sturdy and characterful material known for its warm tones and unique grain structure. To keep your mango wood furniture or accessory beautiful, proper maintenance is essential. Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth prevents the accumulation of dirt and preserves the natural shine of the wood. For stains, use a slightly damp cloth and always dry the surface immediately, as mango wood does not like moisture. Aggressive cleaning agents are best avoided.

To nourish the wood and protect it from drying out, you can occasionally treat it with a natural furniture oil or beeswax. This not only enhances the colour, but also the longevity of the material. Just make sure to test the care product on an inconspicuous area first.

Avoid placing mango wood furniture in direct sunlight or close to a radiator. Too much heat or UV radiation can cause the wood to discolour or crack. To avoid rings and stains, it is best to use coasters or felts under glasses, plants and hot objects. Also, when moving decorations or accessories, felt pads prevent surface scratches.

With this care, your mango wood furniture will stay beautiful and functional for years, while retaining its natural charm.

Properties

  • Sustainable: mango wood is a residual product from fruit cultivation. As soon as mango trees stop bearing fruit, they make way for young trees. The wood from the felled trees thus gets a second life, which makes mango wood a particularly sustainable choice.

  • Lightweight & sturdy: although it is strong, mango wood is lighter than many other tropical hardwoods. This makes furniture easier to move, without compromising on strength.

  • Low-maintenance: with occasional dusting and a treatment with oil or beeswax, mango wood will stay beautiful for years. It is naturally quite resistant to stains and minor damage.
